Comments from Glenn Arbuthnot:
" Our chairperson, Liz Hunt, has done an outstanding job of setting up a great program. Everyone should be able to find something of interest."
We must have all of our hotel reservations on or before Sept. 22. Liz will make the reservations for the trips, so you should mail your reservation form to Liz before Sept. 10.
"To have a viable family association we need good officers, so come to the gathering with the intention of actually volunteering to take an office. At this meeting we should finalize our bylaws, so we do have some rather important business to complete."
"I have been secretary for nearly four years and for some reason I seem to be quite busy as a consultant so I will not be available for another term.I will be publishing one last newsletter before the gathering."
We will also need to elect a person from the central U.S. area to succeed Caroline Burtt as chairman in 2004.
The data now available indicates that the next gathering in Scotland will be in 2002. This conflicts with the US schedule of gatherings every two years, so the Florida gathering, originally scheduled for 2002 may have to be postponed until 2003.
"There were gatherings in Kansas or Nebraska in 1931 and in 1932. They were really fun gatherings. I was 8 and 9 years old at the time, but I still remember what a good time I had. The earliest gatherings for which I have pictures and attendance information are 1904, 1905, and 1911. Apparently these were all held in Kansas or Nebraska. All of these gatherings were well attended. We should do better. See you there."
